Here we go!

Welcome to My Year of Healthy!

My journey to a healthier me has been a very private one up until now. But I decided to start this blog today because I want accountability and I figured I might have some knowledge to share. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in my situation so I hope visitors will find some motivation here to get to a healthier them as well.

Back in 2004, when I was 35 years old, I really wanted to get healthier and I embarked on a journey to lose weight and get in shape. I went from weighting 165 lbs to 129 lbs and about 12% body fat by the Spring of 2006. I LOVED how I felt and how I looked. I even quit smoking during that time so I was by far the healthiest I had been in all my life.

And then my life was turned upside down. I separated from my kids' father, changed jobs, moved and met someone new in about a 6 month period.

Fast forward to August 2017...  I started smoking again, I ate everything in sight and didn't move AT ALL! I woke up one morning and decided something needed to change. I signed up for Weight Watchers online and got on this journey.

My starting weight on August 4, 2017 was 194 lbs.  I couldn't believe it and I wanted to cry! I had managed to gain 65 lbs in 11 years, I was out of shape and I didn't feel good at all.

Since then, I've lost 24.4 lbs on the Weight Watchers plan.  I feel much better (my knees and feet don't hurt as much anymore) and I feel as though I look a lot better!

Over the holidays, I splurged a little bit more than I wanted so I'm pressing the "Reset" button today and moving onto part 2 of this journey. I will post here with an update weekly. I also plan on sharing tips, tricks and recipes I use to stay on track.

Here are my stats as of today:

  • Weight: 169.6 lbs
  • Fat %:  40.7
  • BMI:  28.2
  • Chest:  41.5"
  • Ribs:  33.5"
  • Waist:  35"
  • Hips:  43"
  • Bicep:  12.5"
  • Thigh:  24.5"
And here are my "during" photos:

Here's to a Healthier, Happier me for 2018!

Instant Pot Butternut Squash Soup

Today, I thought I would share a great recipe I found on Pinterest a few weeks ago. Instant Pot Butternut Squash Soup I did change a few things though: Replaced the coconut milk with 10% cream Only put half of the oregano and Herbs de Provence (and I thought it was enough) Did not use cayenne pepper (I'm not a huge fan of hot food) And it comes out delicious every time! January 19, 2018 Update

I don't have a great update this week. After a 1.8 lbs loss last week, I made horrible food choices this week - I actually ate two chocolate bars! The main reason for my lack of discipline was hubby being sick with pneumonia and work being crazy busy so we went to the take out menu way too often this week. This resulted in a gain of 1.8 lbs. My lesson learned this week: make sure I go grocery shopping on the weekend so that I have all the necessary food on hand when I'm ready to cook supper. Anyhow - no excuses - and I really need to do better next week... Here are my weekly stats: Weight: 165.6 lbs (up 1.8) for a total loss so far of 29 lbs Fat %: 40.1 (no change) BMI: 27.6 (up from 27.3)
